Luminus Tools is a privacy-first index of everyday calculators, converters, and developer utilities. Rather than forcing you to jump through cookie banners, server-side bottlenecks, and signup walls, every core calculation on Luminus occurs right inside your browser. No data ever leaves your device.
To keep the experience fast and visually engaging, we use lightweight client-side scripts, responsive graphics, and an immersive theme system that connects our utilities to the rhythm of the physical world.
The Dynamic Theme System
One of the defining aspects of Luminus Tools is its Time- and Weather-Responsive Celestial Styling. Instead of static light/dark toggles, our visual layer adapts automatically to your local timezone and outdoor conditions:
- Temporal Hues: The interface transitions gradually through a 24-hour cycle, moving from the warm tones of Dawn (5 AM – 8 AM), clean contrasts of Day (8 AM – 5 PM), calming gradients of Dusk (5 PM – 8 PM), to the deep contrasts of Night (8 PM – 5 AM).
- Atmospheric Accent Shifts: The background aurora glows and element borders shift their underlying HSL color palettes based on weather conditions (e.g., gold/orange for clear sky, slate blue for cloudy weather, oceanic teal for rain, frozen ice cyan for snow, and electric violet for stormy conditions).
Why Location is Required
To drive the weather-responsive styling, the website attempts to fetch local weather indicators. We request access to your geolocation coordinates (latitude and longitude) solely for this purpose.
Here is how this works:
- Weather Check: Your coordinates are sent client-side to the open-source, public Open-Meteo API to retrieve the current WMO weather code (e.g. rain, clear sky) and local temperature.
- Stable Custom Shift: A mathematical sinus/cosinus operation is performed client-side on your coordinates to generate a unique, stable HSL shift. This makes the primary accent color of the website slightly and uniquely personalized to your city, without any central configuration.
- No Tracking: If geolocation is denied, the website falls back to anonymous IP-based geolocation or time-of-day defaults. At no point is your location stored on our servers, compiled into behavioral files, or shared with third parties. It is processed in-memory and discarded.
